HORSES, HUMANS & HABITAT

about BSCS

Founded in 2005, Boarders & Stewards of Courtesy Stable is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization

At the end of the day, there’s one thing that holds this little community of neighbors, riders and horses together: the historic barn. Once home to dairy cows, Courtesy Stable now houses up to twelve of our four-legged equine friends.

We consider ourselves temporary stewards of this special place, taking care of this barn on behalf of the next generation of horse-obsessed kids and adults who will learn to trust themselves by trusting the equine.

And our work is never done & we have more improvements to make. If you’ve ever walked by the turnout and waved at Tucker, sent your kids around the riding ring with Lacy or have made the Barn part of your weekly routine, help us preserve these possibilities and this place for the future! Volunteer with us or make a donation now.

our mission

CONNECTING HORSES, HUMANS & HABITAT

Courtesy Stable is a place unto its own, where our relaxed atmosphere promotes goodwill and nurtures the equine spirit.

We are collectively unique in our walks of life, but our commonality is our dedicated approach to the care and well being of the horse and his environment, as well as instilling good horsemanship practices in our youth of today.

The Mission for the BSCS is to create an equine friendly environment that provides a quality care facility for our horses as well as preserves the natural beauty & history found in the Wissahickon Valley. We strive to offer the opportunity to improve equine awareness through education for the surrounding general public, as well as ourselves in any and all areas of riding, horse care, and horse health.

We aspire to encourage and enhance the relationship between the general public and the horse community in the neighborhood, as well as the entire Wissahickon Valley.

SUPPORT OUR MISSION

2024 agenda

We are committed and continuously striving to make Courtesy Stable a gem in the neighborhood.

Our active Board is “on board” and making things happen. This year our newly added Volunteer Coordinator will start to get things rolling with monthly opportunities.

These past few years BSCS has invested $8,400 in stabilizing this site.

We have accomplished key repairs:

  • Painting and wood restoration of the west side of the barn
  • Critical weather proofing of stalls impacted from extreme storms
  • Replacement and repairs of critical fences, gates and turnouts damaged by storms

Volunteer TO DO list:

  • Paint inside the barn
  • Paint the posts in the arena

Professional TO DO list:

  • Paint the remaining 2 exterior sides of the barn, estimated cost approximately $12K
  • Installing water control and soil mitigation factors, estimated cost approximately $50K
  • Replace the midline fencing between the upper and lower turnouts $10K
  • Level and install new floor mats to the stalls inside the barn $6K

We welcome any financial gifts that help us reach these goals for our property and ponies! Want to help?
